Challenge #2: UPCYCLING – where you create a new garments, objects anything from the leftover fabrics or anything that are not used anymore.
Challenge #3: MISURA – where you do an outfit with a given theme on the random model.
1. Technical challenge: Black Little Dress
Rank #3
Winner: Gianluca
Honestly, technical part scared me always. It is precise, detail-oriented and requires experiences. Comes to the little dress, I was quite confident. I was happy with fabric choice – Lana – which is perfect match for masculine and feminine. But again, time. Time is my big problem. I finished it, yet, no time for final touch – ironing on mannequin. Gianluca is superb awesome on every technical challenge! He was absolutely deserved to win this.
Lesson learnt: how to iron the wool fabrics, how to create the nice curve without biasing out.
2. Upcycling challenge: Grandmom’s treasure chest
Rank: I won!!!!!
This was so funny that when I looked at this treasure chest the first thing I thought there was something about pirates like pirate costume, the hat, the coin, the rope, swords, telescope, the map because I love ‘Pirate of the Carribean’ so much. Then I thought I would transform them into something punk rock or school’s gang. I was so excited but it turned out is Grandmom’s old clothes. BOOMMM!!! woala.
It was everything randomly from shirts to jackets, to dresses, to wools, to laces, to crotches. OMG. What should I have done with them in 90mins??????
All of my feeling right away was like broken heart and scratched. So did something express my feeling like creating some scratches on the dress.
Lesson learnt: It is important to learn about how many types of needles and choose the right one, also right thread tension for the fabrics. I got at least 3 layers and it was thick and I broke needles 3 times. it was wasted needle and time unneccessarily.
3. Misura challenge: Disco Diva
Yes Yes Yes! who do not want to go to disco on Friday or Saturday night?
I love this. I will do something sexy and not sexy at the same time. The cut out on the chest is risky but I would like to try on the contrast of colors, proportions and fabric weights. That is what I thought about the design.
I was lucky to have a chance to talk with Elide. She was so helpful to show me how to finish the hem of armholes. I was struggling with it for almost half hour because of the big cut out and the unwise fabric choice.
Lesson learnt: fabric choices!! it was so hard to work on thin and stretchy fabrics from cutting to sewing it. It took me so slow with every single stitches to make sure it is right patterns. Working with leather is so great. Love it.
Elimination: Giovanni had to go home. It was incredible for him to go this far. He was absolutely passionated and I felt it every time he speaks about fashion, sewing, designs. Best wishes for you!
